Rudy and Lorraine Johnson: October 2007
Dear Friends,
The past 2 months have been very difficult for our new believers. The idolatress festivals in our area have been going on for over 100 years during this time of the year. They include grandparents to newborn babies, and anyone who tries to break with tradition is considered an outcast. Before the festivals, our youth meetings grew to 70. After the festivals, we had in the 20's. It was like starting over, but Thank God, we are back in the 40's now.
We have finally been able to get our Sports Ministry in the public school going. We had it all ready to start and there was a very bitter National Teacher's strike that lasted for over a month. Many teachers were jailed and all of them lost their pay for the time they were on strike.
Several good things have been going on at the Camp. Several schools have used our facilities for Field Trips and we have made many new friends.
October 5-7 the Gideons International are celebrating 50 years of working in Peru and they have selected our Camp for this meeting. There will be between 160 - 200 people and I have been asked to be one of the speakers.
On October 10 we will be going to Lima for 2 weeks. We will be celebrating the 47th. Anniversary of the first church that we started in Peru. There will be many people coming from foreign countries for this meeting that were saved in the early days of the church. Our son, Russell, from Miami, and I will be speaking along with the first Peruvian that I baptized, who is now a missionary in Venezuela. We will give you the details in our next letter. Pray for the meeting and our safety as we travel.
Sincerely your and His,
Rudy and Lorraine Johnson
