Dan and Elizabeth Canavan: December 2006 January 2007
We recently had our first Faith Promise Missions Conference. Dr. Halsey and his wife, from BIMI, were able to be with us. We also had two European nationals, a Portuguese pastor taking a small work in Portugal and an English missionary going to Honduras. The conference went well and the people seemed to grasp the concept of faith promise giving. Though what is actually coming in is somewhat below what was promised, it is still a significant increase. We were able to take the missionary and the pastor on for support. We are grateful for the step of faith many took and look forward to even greater things in the future.
Our Christmas Cantata went well. The Lord allowed the Gospel to go out through the Cantata, the sermon and in personal witnessing after the service. Mary, a coworker of one of the choir members, stayed for tea and cake and showed a little spiritual interest. The second visitor, a Philipino man named Butch was more open and seemed to be under conviction. Please remember Butch's and Mary's salvation in prayer.
We were invited to a Nursing Home in the area to sing just before Christmas. The triplets, Beth and five folks from the church went over and sang, doing a super job. It was a great chance to witness, to meet people and hopefully to be a blessing. The coordinator called us after the meeting to say the Cantata went well and we were welcome back in the future. We hope to bring our little choir back around at Easter.
In the New Year we, are stressing the need to reach out to one another and to those that are outside the church. We are earnestly praying for folks to be saved, baptized and added to the church. Please pray with us to this end.
The Triplets are now in ninth grade. The daily homework, piano practice and helping dad and mom in the ministry keeps them very busy (and out of trouble.) They greatly enjoyed the two week Christmas holiday from school, as did there mom! They all felt refreshed and ready to tackle the second semester of ninth grade.
The steep cost of living increases in Dublin and the devaluation of the dollar means I must return to the States to raise more support. Please be in prayer with us as we seek to wisely navigate through this situation and maintain forward progress in the work.
Prayer Requests:
1. Salvation - Mary, Butch, Michael, Jisling, Noreen, Mark, Philip, Shauna, John
2. Baptism - Sean, Michael, Yan Ling
3. Raising support
In Christ,
Dan Canavan
