July 4th Picnic in the Park!
Join the entire church family for our annual 4th of July picnic in the park (Rockwood Park across the street from the church)! Bring enough hot dogs, buns, salad, chips and dessert for your family. The church will provide the lemonade, plates, cups, flatware, napkins and ice cream. There will be fun games for the young (and young at heart), and a great time of fellowship with your church family.
This is also a wonderful opportunity to bring your friends and family to introduce them to your church family, too!
The picnic will begin at noon. Immediately following lunch, we will have a special dedication ceremony for the new Memorial Flag Poles! You just don't want to miss this!

OPERATION:OPPORTUNITY - Spring Sunday School Campaign
An Opportunity to Impact our Community for Christ
March 22 - April 26
Galatians 6:10 is where the theme for our Spring Sunday School Campaign is found. "As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith." With these words in mind, we are activating the church family to go outside the walls of our congregation and touch our community, showing the love of Christ in a tangible way through some specific Operations in the five weeks of this campaign.
Join us on Saturday, April 4, for OPERATION: SATURATION. Our goal is to saturate our neighborhood with invitations to the Easter Cantata. We will meet at 10am, and conclude by enjoying lunch together at 12pm.
OPERATION: RESURRECTION is Sunday, April 12. We will have a combined service at 10:45am for the Easter program, Amazing Grace: My Chains Are Gone. Bring a visitor with you, and enjoy great music and drama from the GPBC adult choir, Kids of Praise and drama team.
Saturday, April 18, the church will mobilize throughout our neighborhood with OPERATION: RESPONSIBILITY, as we adopt our neighboring park and the blocks around the church and pick up trash for the benefit of our neighbors.
OPERATION: RESCUE is the entire week of Sunday, April 19-April 25. Every Sunday School class has an action plan devised to take the love of Christ into our community through charitable service. From helping the Portland Rescue Mission, to collecting items for a food bank or pregnancy resource center, to performing maintenance for an assisted living center, to visiting shut-ins and creating hand-made cards for the elderly, we will show our faith by our works.
The grand finale of the mission is OPERATION: RECOGNITION on Sunday, April 26. Every visitor will be recognized with a special "thank you" for visiting GPBC. City officials, law enforcement, emergency personnel, teachers and others who make a difference in our community will be recognized for their service. Special recognition will be given to our Sunday School teachers and Bus Workers. Help us show our gratitude to those who make a difference in our community by their service on this special day.
"Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it." - Proverbs 3:27

Are You Plugged In?
There's a Place of Service for You!
So, are you a ministry spectator or a ministry participant? Are you actively involved in serving Christ, or are you on the sidelines wanting other people to serve you? You have probably heard the illustration of a football team, where it is said there are 22 men on the field in desperate need of rest, being watched by 80,000 fans in desperate need of a workout! Which side of that illustration best illustrates your spiritual life?
One preacher said, "The work of God is performed by tired people!" Every one who is involved in the ministry of GPBC is a busy person. It is not a matter of people being bored, and having nothing better to do than volunteer in a ministry function. Rather, it is men and women who desire to be servants of Jesus Christ through the ministry of their local church that makes it possible to accomplish all that we do.
There is a place of service for you! Just look at some of the ministries of our church that right now could use another faithful servant:
• Building Maintenance and Janitorial Ministry
• Bus Ministry
• Choir / Special Music
• www.gpbcweb.org
• Deaf Ministry
• Greater Portland Christian Academy
• Helping Hands
• Jail Ministry
• Juvenile Shelter Ministry
• Joy Clubs
• Lawn Care Ministry
• Video Ministry
• Nursery Ministry
• Portland Rescue Mission Ministry
• Prayer Line Ministry
• Senior Saints Visitation
• Sunday School Ministry
• Security Ministry
• Teen Ministry
• Ushers Ministry
• Visitor's Welcome Center Ministry
So, how can you help? First, pray that God would give you a willing heart to serve. Second, demonstrate a commitment to faithful participation in the services as a member of GPBC. Third, talk with any of the pastoral staff about the opportunities for service that are available. Fourth, get busy serving the Lord!
"And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also." 2 Timothy 2:2
